2012 NWTF Show in the Mossy Oak Booth with Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts
Show Season for me is January to March, what it means is for the next three months, I will be traveling to many calling contests, indoor 3D Archery Shoots, as well as hitting up many Outdoor Shows. I love the contests, calling and 3D, not because I’m particularly good at them, I do ok but I’m no Grand National Champion. It’s getting to see my buddies, which I haven’t seen in a few months, at many of the contests.
Local Calling Contests kick off in January and will run right up to the Grand National Calling Championships (GNCC) put on each year by the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF). 
This happens at the Annual NWTF Convention and Sport Show in Nashville. Every competitive turkey caller in the world wants to qualify for this contest. I will be calling at this contest but I have taken a bit of a set back as far as cutting down the number of contests I will call at in Nashville. Why? Well to focus more on the show as a whole. Last year was crazy running from contest to contest, on top of that I had an obligation to companies who had helped get me to Nashville and the rest of my time was spent working in their booths. Don’t get me wrong I had a blast hanging out in the Mossy Oak Booth and the WoodHaven Custom Calls Booth and plan to work those booths again this year. By cutting back on the number of contests I call in I should get a little more time to take in all that Nashville and the NWTF have to offer. Indoor 3D shoots start in January as well, and I can’t wait to get back at it, for me it’s like golf. I’m always trying to better my best score, I don’t care if I win or I’m in the top ten but I really just want to do better than my last time out. Reminds me of my days on the high school golf team-my focus was to just get better each time out. Tell you what it, really makes those 25 and 30 yard shot this last hunting season a chip shot, after spending as much time shooting 3D shoot in the off season. Then there are the sport shows, which at times some of the above events are held at!! One such show is the Iowa Deer Classic, it will have both a calling contest and an indoor archery shoot. New this year to the Deer Classic is the Mid Iowa Classic Turkey Calling Contest. This is NOT a new contest, I started the Mid Iowa Classic contest 6 years ago and it has gotten bigger and better each year. It is hosted by the Iowa NWTF, JAX Outdoor Gear and now the Iowa Deer Classic. For more info on the calling contest check out the facebook page, as well as the Iowa Deer Class website!
