Well first off, Happy New Year to all of you, ready or not hello 2013!! At Victory Outdoor we have big plans for 2013, as always we will bring you some of the greatest stories from the whitetail and turkey woods. We have asked many of you and in 2013 we will bring you more video blogs, as a whole we want to be a great outlet of information. For me 2012 was a great year, tagging two great Iowa whitetails and tagging 3 spring toms and 2 fall turkeys, but something tells me 2013 will be even better!

Now to the matter at hand, we all have hitlist bucks. I was able to kill one of my top two hitlisters this year with a bow. I had one hitlist buck that I was waiting to show up on one of my trail cams but he never did. I had first gotten a picture of him in the fall of 2010. He was a shooter then but not my number one target, as I was after a monster 9 that was shot by a neighbor, 168 2/8. Not because he might not be bigger than 168” it was that I was seeing the monster 9 point during the day often chasing does. He was a very visible buck the kind that usually gets shot.

In 2011 I was shocked when I got two sequences of pictures two days apart, one year to the day on the same scrape as the picture from 2010. The buck was a world class monster whitetail in my mind anyway, so I named him “The Palms”. I didn’t tell many people about the buck. I also didn’t hunt for that buck as much as maybe I should have filling my tag on a great 135ish 9 point, just two days after getting the trail cam pictures of this monster. I know what some of you are thinking, Why? I don’t look back in regret at all. I had a ton of pictures of the 9 pointer and I did however think he would be closer to 140 then 135 but I was happy to fill my tag with a buck that was on my hitlist.

M2E1L0-7R350B300Some may want to know why I have waited until now to post the pictures. I wasn’t keeping it from any of the local guys that I know hunt that area. I shared it with people I knew to be great deer hunters. I just didn’t want to post them for the world to see and attract the wrong kind of people to my neck of the woods. If you know what I mean!!!M2E1L0-7R350B300

Why now? Well I never heard of anyone killing this buck. If one had I’m sure it would have made the rounds in my area. Also no one has ever found the sheds that I’m aware of. I don’t know if he died of EHD or maybe got hit by a car in April or May of 2012. In those months it would still have the monster body but might not stand out to someone as a buck. So it’s hard to know what really happened to him, and who knows he could still be out there too. At any rate I felt that it was time to share this monster with the rest of you. If he is alive, I wish him the best of luck making it to next fall. I would gladly put him on my hitlist again next year.
