The 2013 Mid Iowa Classic turkey calling contest has fast become one of the biggest events of its kind over the last five years, known for its great prizes and judging. In its 6th year we hope it’s bigger and better than ever. JAX Outdoor Gear has done a great job putting together prize packs, this year’s prizes will include Cash Payouts, Guns, Hunting Vests, Calls and Decoys to name a few. Last year we had our best turn out ever and hope to see all of you back, as well as …a few new faces. Open to all callers Amateurs and Pros, there is a division for everyone!!!
New Location this year the Mid Iowa Classic is being held at what is called “The Greatest Whitetail Show on Earth” the Iowa Deer Classic. We are very thankful to the Iowa Deer Classic for hosting us this year and hopefully for years to come. The contest is on Sunday March 3rd, 2013 in the RAM Seminar room, we have the room all day! If you’re looking for it ask where the Seminars are at and you will find us.

The contest really is open to all, kids to adults, beginners and experts alike. The kid’s calling contest is broken down into three divisions and all three are FREE!
Poult Division – 10 years and under, Plaques for Top 3 + prizes
Junior Division – up to 15yrs old, Plaques for Top 3 + prizes
Intermediate Division – up to 20 yrs old Plaque for Top 3 + prizes
The Owl Hooting and Gobbling Divisions are always fun. Why Owl Hooting? Well it has long been a locator call used when turkey hunting and found its way in to turkey calling contest. Gobbling well no explanations needed here, it’s what more turkey hunter live for, and the contestants on stage put on a great show. Don’t miss this one!

We have a Hunter Division that is an amateur event. Now what does that mean, it means all ages are welcome to call in this division. Open to anyone who has never qualified for the Grand National Calling Championships (GNCC) or won a qualifying event. No “Pro” caller may call in the Hunter/Amateur contest. You might ask how does one qualify for the GNCC, well you must have won a Senior Friction, State or Open contest or have placed second to a caller already qualified.
That doesn’t mean that a caller in the Hunter Division can’t call in a Senior Friction, State or Open at the Mid Iowa Classic, as long as they are 21 years or older. If fact when I started calling I tried to get as much stage time as I could. The more time I spent on stage calling the better I got, so we would love to see the hunter division callers’ step up and call in the Senior Divisions. One great thing about contest calling is most callers are willing to help out the newer contest callers. Until you beat us, that is… LOL just kidding these callers are all great people and will help in any way they can just ask!!
