Iowa Deer Classic 2013 Recap

Not my sheds but he couldn't pass up a chance to get his hands on them!!

Wow what a show! Monster deer, great new products, the new turkey calling contest and all the great people my wife and I met. I always look forward to the Iowa Deer Classic each year but this year it was a little different as we had agreed to move the Mid Iowa Classic Turkey Calling Contest to the deer classic. I have run this contest for the last 5 years and bringing it to a venue like the Iowa Deer Classic was the next step I had been looking for.

The owner of the sheds, and no it is not a wild deer, they are from a deer farm.

Mid Iowa Classic had one of its biggest turnout to date and I think maybe the largest of all time. I already can’t wait to make it even bigger next year and in talking with the Deer Classic folks it sure looking like we will be back. I want to personally thank everyone who made it a great contest without their help we couldn’t have this contest. Next I want to thank all the callers who traveled from many different states to call in this contest. Big thanks to the Iowa Deer Classic, Iowa NWTF State Chapter, and JAX Outdoor Gear, as they were the presenting sponsors for this contest. As for the rest of the show Sara and I helped out in the Watson AirLock booth. To stay these bags where a HIT at the show is an understatement! For the second year in a row we sold out of the Watson AirLock bags. If you don’t know about these bags by now, you have got to check out the website. They are air tight, waterproof bags, designed by a hunter for hunters. If it goes in scent free and dry it stays that way. I have now used these bags for over a year now and all I can say is “if you don’t have them you’re missing out.” There isn’t anything made like them on the market, the quality is second to none. Yes they are a sponsor of this page but that is because they are great products that we believe in. Chris Watson has designed a bag that is truly the last “scent free bag” you will ever need to buy.

bottomless26As crazy and busy as the last 3 days have been at the Iowa Deer Classic, we can’t wait to go back next year. Now I’m ready for spring turkey hunting to commence.
