Kansas Hunt Recap

I always think about, “how do I plan a trip? Where to go? and where to stay?… but on this trip to Kansas its starting to become tradition. As I usually do, I Googled the area checking all the spots I hunted last year to make sure they where still in the Kansas Walk Up Hunting program. I made my reservations and bought my tags! That’s just the start after packing everything I thought I would need plus the kitchen sink my truck was loaded and off we went. On the way I got reports from other hunters that the turkeys are all “henned up” that meant our hunting strategies might need some tweaking. With the birds are not responding to our calls or coming to our decoys, we would be do more scouting looking for ambush set ups.

That’s pretty much what we did as for much of the first two days, it rained. We scouted a group of turkeys by watching them feeding in the fields after the rain stopped. We paid special attention to where they went to roost and the area we thought they would go after fly down. The goal was to get in the way and hope that we could call them close as they went about their day. We had to set up in mind on the third afternoon my buddy Greg and I both harvested our birds using this tactic. We saw over a 100 birds but Greg killed his first Rio tom and I ended up with a nice jake. The rest of the Victory Outdoors crew did well filling a total of 7 of 8 tags. I’m back home in Missouri and our season has just started and I hope to have some great footage for you guys in the next week or so. Thanks for checking out Victory Outdoors!
