Scrape Cam Action

This is the best time of year to catch great pictures of bucks visiting the scrape cam, leading up to the peak breeding season. I move most of my cameras to active scrapes during the first couple weeks of October and run them there until the end of the season. The majority of the pictures are taken at night, but they still give a good look at some of the bucks that are using the area frequently, as well as a few wandering bucks looking for a hot doe. I did notice the activity dropped off over the last week or so, which leads me to believe the bucks are actively searching for does rather than relying on the scrapes to announce their presence. I anticipate the activity to pick up in about two weeks when the majority of does have been bred and the bucks are trying to make sure they find the last receptive doe.

This is the first year I’ve caught a fight sequence at one of these scrape cams, so now I’m tempted to switch the cameras to video mode. The fight I caught lasted more than four minutes, and I think that would have made for a very entertaining video. Even so, I’m glad to see so many different bucks using the property and there appear to be several that look like excellent three year olds that should be monsters should they survive another year or two.
