I haven’t officially pulled the cameras, mainly because I haven’t decided where exactly I want to put them yet, but I’m pretty sure the carcass cam is winding down for the year. I got some pretty decent pictures throughout the winter but overall it was a disappointing year. After last year I had high hopes for more amazing eagle pictures, but they just didn’t come this year. There are still quite a few eagles in the area, but for one reason or another, they just didn’t like the setup, so they didn’t come in. I also figured out the coyotes in the area are not fans of the white flash camera. I was not getting very many coyote pictures until I switched the white flash camera out for another IR camera. After the switch, I went from less than ten coyote pictures in a week to several hundred. I’m starting to wonder if the lack of coyotes digging the carcass out of the snow had something to do with the absence of eagles. I did end up with some nice hawk pictures and quite a few decent coyote pictures, as well as thousands of skunks and crows. Even though the year was a bit of a letdown, I have no plans to stop running this setup in the winter. I still think it’s a great way to utilize your cameras late in the year when deer season is over and antlers have been shed. Now I just have to decide if I want to put all the cameras into full turkey scouting mode or try to diversify and get some other species in various settings and scenery. I guess I’ll just have to head out with a backpack full of cameras and see how the mood strikes me.
