We decided we would call this buck Kenny. If you are a fan of the tv show South Park you’ll probably get the reference immediately. If not, you’ll probably wonder what’s wrong with those guys from Victory Outdoors. Basically, in every episode of the show, Kenny dies a random death then his friends say “they killed Kenny.” I’m just going to say it. I want to kill Kenny. He’s given me quite a few great pictures, and almost all of them are in daylight. I realize these summer patterns don’t really mean much once fall and hunting season roll around, but I’m excited for the season to start. It’s amazing watching the progression from the first pics on June second through the last pics on July first.
He is showing up on two cameras that are about 150 yards apart. One is up on a ridge that leads to some prime buck habitat, and the other is down in the river bottom on a heavily used trail from the ridge to a nearby cornfield. I can only hope with him being on those two cameras he has set up his residence in the area and will hang around for the season. I don’t have any confirmed pictures of him from last year, but I did have one buck give me a partial look at his rack as he passed close by but basically under a camera last fall. It’s hard to say for sure it’s the same buck, but there haven’t been any deer with similar antler characteristics in the ten seasons I’ve hunted this property. I just pulled cards yesterday and I’m already excited to see what will be on them in three weeks when I check them again.
