In the Mann family the winter gets very busy. Through the long, yet seamlessly short deer season, the time gets rather hectic. Once things start settling down with the holidays and the whitetail season ending, and then it is time to part ways yet again. Brothers all separate whether to go to school or back home to start the year, they once again are apart.
Through the next few months it is hit or miss on whether the weekends can match up to head home together. Though we seem to have crazy schedules, we still keep in touch and plan a few shed hunting adventures while waiting on the turkey season to come.
Prepping for Spring Turkey Season is always an exciting time. The weather is changing and becoming warmer, the animals seem to be out and moving, and everyone seems to have higher spirits. Scouting for the turkeys is a little fun we have before opening day. This allows us to get out and look for the birds while spending valuable time together. Placing blinds, game planning for paths, even fighting over who gets to hunt where are all rituals that come year after year.
Though I come from a family of three boys that hunt passionately, we could not have the drive we have today if it wasn’t for the ruler of the house. My mother is one of the most motivated hunters I have ever met. We have all hunted together for many years and I do not see this changing anytime soon. It is very different then deer season, when you can over hunt a spot and have too many people together and so on. Turkey hunting for us is more of a family time. Beats are always being placed, buttons being pushed, even wrestling matched being performed. This is all something that I would never want to live without.
Below is a link to an article my mother made nearly ten years ago. This is a memory I will never forget, but there have been and will be many more like this. I challenge you to have memories like these. I challenge you to bring people that you love hunting. Mostly I challenge you to fall in love with the outdoors.
